Families can choose from several winter science classes offered on select weekdays from December through March.

January through March
The Science Chef: (Playgroup)
Science Chef is a joyful, hands-on kitchen chemistry class where young scientists become little chefs and little chefs become curious scientists. In this session, 3- and 4-year-olds shake cream into real butter, watch ingredients change in texture and color, and explore simple reactions, like a safe kitchen “fizz,” using everyday pantry items. Children mix, pour, stir, and taste as they discover that cooking is really about science—observing changes, using their senses, and asking “what will happen if…?”
Designed especially for preschoolers, Science Chef emphasizes fun, safety, and sensory exploration while quietly building early STEM skills like predicting, comparing, and describing changes. With small-group activities and clear routines, children practice turn-taking, following simple steps, and working together to create tasty treats they helped “experiment” into existence. Families walk away with easy ideas to continue kitchen science at home, helping kids see that chemistry lives right in their own fridge and cupboards.

Mystery Matter: (Ages 5-7)
Every child has a bit of a chemist’s side and loves mixing different ingredients. With a bit of guidance and direction from Carmelo the Science Fellow, you will create things like never before. Experiment and create your very own powerball that bounces so high it could reach the sky. Enter the world of Perfume Science and design your own perfume that suits you perfectly and make some perfumes for your family that is made especially for them. At one time, chewing gum in school got you into big trouble. Here at the Brooklyn Science Spot, you will learn how to make gum in class as a lesson in the chemistry of food. Can you make the world’s best bubble gum? Learn how to mix ingredients and make a large tube of minty toothpaste. You will notbe able to wait and brush your teeth.

The Chemical Station: (Ages 8-10)
Do you like mixing chemicals together? If so, then this is the class for you. Participate in the reactive glow experiment to create a material that glows an eerie green and looks totally cool! Become a mad scientist and work in our bath bomb factory, where you will create numerous bath bombs and other fizzy experiments. Please take your results home and test them in your bath. Work with dry ice and learn about matter like never before. It’s amazing to see a beaker of bubbling potion filling the room with “smoke”. It’s totally awesome! Do you like candy? Do you like soda? If so, let’s mix the two together and create geysers, rockets, and other sensational experiments. Do not miss this explosive fall after-school class.
