Brooklyn Science Spot
Holiday Camps
When school is closed, Brooklyn Science Spot Holiday Camps is open
Our holiday break camps and classes run on days and weeks when schools are closed—winter break, spring break, and select single holidays. Instead of screens and “I’m bored,” kids step into a science playground where they question, test, build, and discover from drop-off to pick-up. Camps are grouped by age so activities are challenging but doable, and every day blends structured experiments with time for free
Weekly themes kids can’t stop talking about
Each holiday break features rotating weekly themes that connect to real science while feeling like an adventure story your child is living inside. A few favorites:
- CSI Brooklyn: Campers become crime-scene investigators, using real-world science to solve playful mysteries. They collect “evidence,” analyze fingerprints, compare fibers, test mysterious powders, and decode secret messages. Along the way, they learn about chemistry, forensic science, observation skills, and logical reasoning—without even realizing how much they’re thinking like scientists.
- Don’t Bug Me: A bug-filled, creature-loving week where kids explore the tiny animals that run our world. They meet live insects and other small critters, build bug habitats, use magnifiers to examine body parts, and learn about life cycles, camouflage, and ecosystems. By the end, even the most hesitant camper might have a new appreciation for the “gross but cool” world of invertebrates.
- Cosmic Construction: This theme combines engineering and space science. Campers build rockets, landers, rovers, and space habitats, testing designs to see what can launch the highest, land the safest, or roll the farthest. They explore gravity, force, motion, and simple machines while imagining life on other planets and designing the structures that might get us there.
- Geo-World: A week dedicated to our planet—rocks, fossils, volcanoes, earthquakes, and more. Kids examine rock samples, create volcanic eruptions, build simple models of tectonic plates, and dig into how mountains, valleys, and canyons form. They learn to read the “story” inside rocks and landscapes, connecting earth science to the world they see around them.
Themes change throughout the year, so returning campers always find something new to explore.
What a camp day looks like
A typical holiday camp day at Brooklyn Science Spotpot includes:
- Morning welcome and icebreaker science demo to get everyone laughing and wondering.
- Two to three themed experiment blocks (hands-on chemistry, engineering builds, animal encounters, or investigations tied to the weekly theme).
- Snack and lunch breaks, plus movement and brain-break games.
- Afternoon “big build” or challenge where campers work in teams on a larger project.
- Reflection and share-out time so kids can show off what they created, discovered, or figured out.
Every day has a clear structure, but within that structure kids have real choices about what to build, how to test, and what questions to chase.
Inquiry, humor, and discovery in every session
Our holiday camps are led by engaging instructors who know how to keep kids laughing and learning at the same time. They use humor to break the ice, then shift into inquiry-based exploration so campers do the thinking and experimenting themselves. Kids are encouraged to:
- Ask their own questions and design tests to answer them
- Make predictions and see what actually happens
- Celebrate mistakes as part of real science
- Work together, listen to ideas, and revise their plans
By the end of the week, campers are not only full of fun stories—they’ve practiced real scientific thinking across many domains: biology, physics, chemistry, earth science, and engineering.
